Many of you have probably seen Realcomp’s name mentioned as a source of data and statistics in different news articles recently published. We continue our goal of communicating accurate information through the media that is also “Good News”. I thought I would share some of the most recent statistics with you to give you an overview of what is currently happening in the Realcomp market area.

Since January, 2007, we have seen a steady rise in the number of sales that have been reported. For example, in the entire Realcomp area, the sales for single family properties are as follows: 
January – 2,985,
February – 3,184,
March – 4,079,
April – 4,064, and
May – 4,691.

While these numbers continue to be about 7% under those from 2006, they do indicate that sales are “picking up”. This is good news!

Another important trend to point out is the rise in the number of pending sales reported each month.  Here are the numbers of single family property pending sales by month for 2007:
January – 4,481,
February – 4,457,
March – 5,154,
April – 5,372, and
May – 5,515.

The number of pending sales reported in 2007 compared to this time last year shows an approximate 1% decrease. In comparing this to the 7% decrease in the number of closed sales for the same time, we can conclude that pending sales are taking longer to close. While there was a slight increase in the number of pending sales that were placed “back on the market”, it is not enough of an increase to cause concern. Based on these numbers, we expect to see the number of closed sales to stay steady or rise.

There is also that important statistic for the “Days on Market” that everyone wants to know! Cumulatively, through May, 2007, the average days on market is 123. Last year, this number was 106. I’m sure this increase comes as no surprise to you.
