Straight Talk - August 2008
This month I want to share with you some of the results from the Michigan Association
of REALTORS® Membership Survey on MLS.
• Of the 2,609 REALTORS® that responded to the survey, 843 (32%) use Realcomp as their primary MLS.
• Of the respondents, 1,280 (49%) use the Realcomp MLS as either their primary or secondary system.
• Of 2,596 respondents, 72% strongly agree, agree or remain neutral on having a single, state-wide MLS for Michigan.
• 89% of 2,587 respondents want access to listings for other MLSs.
• The highest rated ancillary MLS services (in order) were: Public Records, Mapping, Real Estate Forms online, CMA and Mobile Access.
Not only is this information valuable to MLS members, it is also valuable to Realcomp and its shareholder boards and associations. It helps to affirm we are on the right track in serving our current and future REALTOR® members. The Realcomp Board of Governors continues to focus on data sharing; we have an open invitation to all boards/associations/MLSs in Michigan to share MLS data. Regarding ancillary Multiple Listing Services, all of the services listed as highest rated are available today through Realcomp. Regarding a statewide MLS database, Realcomp is in the process right now of implementing a public record database infrastructure that will allow Realcomp to offer ML services to REALTOR® brokers/offices across the Lower Peninsula using this data as a firm foundation for statewide services. Realcomp continues to invite boards and associations from around Michigan to join Realcomp in becoming shareholders and consolidating ML services. MLS consolidations are the way brokers and agents will recognize true cost savings now and in the future.
Please continue to let us know how we are doing, what is working or not, and what we can do to improve. Your input in this process is critical! I can be reached by phone at (248) 699-9120 or by e-mail at kkage@corp.realcomp.com.
